Too many siloed communciation paths

by Brian on May 7, 2009

Here’s a point of frustration:

  • I have a Facebook inbox
  • I have multiple Ning inboxes
  • I get direct messages via twitter
  • I belong to multiple linked in, yahoo, collectiveX, and google groups

All that competes with nearly 100 emails in my outlook inbox… and it is becoming impossible to keep up. I try to spend 2-3 days OUT OF THE OFFICE with clients and speaking now and I don’t have a blackberry or iphone, which means I am truly offline. I think what I’ll do is add a tagline to my emails: My preferred contact is via phone!

-Brian, *My preferred communication is via phone cell :970-215-1078* (call anytime, but FYI: I live in Colorado)

Job descriptions

by Brian on May 7, 2009

Nearly 3 weeks into my new life as an entrepreneur, I’ve been struggling with the areas of my business that I’m simply not good at!  A big difference between an employee and an entrepreneur is in the scope of things to do all day! As an employee, you have a JOB DESCRIPTION, which help keep you focused and limits your scope. It’s time to write my own job description as CEO, and descriptions for others whom will help me complete the things that have been draining my energy.

10 days left to go…

by admin on April 8, 2009

The last day of my employment is 4/17/09. I’ve been preparing for this event for over a year, and I feel the timing will never be better. If not now, when? Will I ever have enough money saved up to feel truly secure about making the leap and flying solo without a paycheck? I don’t believe so. In fact, I’m a believer that having a bunch of money saved up would likely only entice me to spend more money on hiring others to do the work I need to learn how to do myself. Some of the early mistakes have been in hiring others to do work, over paying, and not receiving the result I had in mind.

Finding fulfillment

by admin on December 7, 2008

A beautiful, fulfilled life requires nothing more than what you already have. Fulfillment depends solely on your decision to accept and experience it, in the moment where you are. There are some achievements that may take a lifetime to reach. Yet at any point along the way, from the very moment you begin, you can know fulfillment. Reaching any goal is a matter of commitment, discipline, intention and effort. Fulfillment itself is immediate, for it is a matter of knowing that you are living true to your highest purpose. Do not become trapped by measuring success based on what you’ve already done or failed to do. Learn to see that success is entirely a function of how you are feeling and thinking and acting right now. Your past cannot hold you back and your future cannot intimidate you, unless you allow it. This moment has every possibility of being the most fulfilling time you’ve ever known. Your life is infinitely more wonderful than any possession or event or circumstance that you can imagine. And somewhere inside, you know it. – Ralph Marston
